Artifact InSPECtor (NASA): labeling artifacts in Euclid telescope data online

For everyone, no prior knowledge is required (the project includes introductory training): a NASA citizen science project launched in 2026 where volunteers correct errors made by computer algorithms that mistook false signals (glare, cosmic ray tracks, optical and electronic artifacts) for useful spectra of distant galaxies in the Euclid telescope data. You need to look at images labeled by the algorithm and use buttons to report whether the model is correct or not; this helps train the next generation of models and unlock the potential of space telescopes, including Euclid and Roman. Training takes 10-15 minutes, a computer, tablet, or smartphone is suitable; findings can be discussed on the forum.

Shock Detectives (NASA): classifying data on Earth's bow shock

For anyone, no prior knowledge needed: a NASA citizen science project (launched in 2026) in which volunteers help interpret data from the Magnetospheric Multiscale (MMS) mission, four spacecraft flying through the region of Earth's bow shock. Volunteers look at data plots, learn to recognise "peaceful" and "chaotic" plasma regions and click buttons to mark the relevant time periods. Each of the two workflows starts with a 10-15 minute tutorial; a computer, tablet or smartphone is enough, and findings can be discussed in the Talk forum.

Overlap Zoo (NASA): classifying pairs of overlapping galaxies online

For anyone, no prior knowledge needed: a NASA citizen science project launched in 2026 in which volunteers view images of galaxies that Galaxy Zoo volunteers previously identified as overlapping, verify that a galaxy pair is present, classify key features of each galaxy and mark their outlines. The work helps build the first large-scale catalogue of galaxy pairs suitable for dust studies. The in-project tutorial takes 10-15 minutes, after which volunteers can work as long as they like; an internet-connected computer is enough, and findings can be discussed in the Talk forum.

NASA OSTEM Internship Programs 2027: summer and fall for students who are U.S. citizens

Open only to U.S. citizens at least 16 years old at the time of application: full-time or part-time students at U.S. accredited technical schools, colleges and universities (from undergraduate to graduate level) with a GPA of at least 3.0 on a 4.0 scale, or graduates within three sessions after finishing their studies; STEM and non-STEM fields are accepted. The 2027 summer session lasts 10 weeks and the fall session 15 weeks; applications for summer are accepted until March 1, 2027 (11:59 pm US Eastern time) and for fall until May 24, 2027 through the NASA STEM Gateway portal. Most interns receive a stipend that depends on academic level and session length; some internships are volunteer.
