Cubes in Space 2026/27: school experiments for NASA launches, ages 11-18, until 22 February

A program for students aged 11-18 who do not attend a university: educators (from schools, clubs or homeschooling) submit an application on the students' behalf for an experiment linked to a real-world Earth or space problem. Registration opens on 9 November 2026, the program opens on 8 January and registration closes on 22 February 2027; the application for spaceflight is due on 12 April and the selection results are announced on 10 May 2027. Selected experiments are launched from NASA facilities: on a rocket on 24 June 2027 and on a scientific balloon in late August 2027, and students then get the experiments back. International participants are allowed, but only on the balloon flight. Registration and the application are free, a $75 flight fee applies to a selected experiment, and international participants pay all shipping to the USA and back.
